Older People's Advocacy
The Plymouth Older Carers Advocacy Service
Eligibility
The service works to provide advocacy support to people over 60 supporting or caring for someone with a Learning Disability or Autism. Older carers must be ordinary residents living within the city of Plymouth boundary.
Aims
- To support carers over 60 who are known to the Department or who have been referred to the service.
- To provide information to carers about service developments, benefits, and anything else people need to find out.
- To promote and support the completion of emergency plans for older carers.
- To research what older carers want for their service in Plymouth.
- To set up a support group designed around what older carers want.
SEAP are
Independent: Not part of statutory Health or Adult Social Care Services.
Confidential: We will not discuss what has been said outside the organisation unless there is a disclosure of a life threatening or illegal nature.
Empowering: Lead by the person using the service, instructed by them.
Not concerned about making judgements about what is in people’s best interests: It is the person’s view of their own situation which the advocate will work with, not try to change their viewpoint.
