Mental Health Advocacy

Woman interlinking her fingers

Mental Health Advocacy was one of the original advocacy projects started in 1995 by Hastings Voluntary Action. It has evolved from supporting people with mental health problems in the Hastings area to having offices in Berkshire, Cornwall, Portsmouth, Kent and Oxford. The Advocacy teams work in a variety of Mental Health units as well as in the community.

Advocates support and represent clients at ward rounds, out-patient appointments, CPA reviews, Mental Health Review Tribunals and in other settings. Clients can self-refer for individual appointments or meet with advocates at the various regular advocacy clinics held within the local acute psychiatric in-patient units, specialist forensic psychiatric units, and local community clinics.

The service is completely free and confidential.
