Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA) in Portsmouth is provided by SEAP. This service supports a person who lacks capacity to represent their likely views to those who are responsible for making decisions.

IMHA
Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA) in Portsmouth is provided by SEAP. The Mental Health Act changed in April 09 and now most detained patients have a legal right to an advocate (IMHA). You are entitled to an IMHA if you are detained under Section 2 or 3, subject to a Community Treatment Order, subject to Guardianship, not detained but being considered for certain treatments.
Mental Health Advocacy
SEAP Portsmouth provides advocacy services for adults with mental health problems living in Portsmouth.
SEAP Portsmouth also provides inpatient advocacy services for users of mental health services in St James Hospital, Portsmouth.
Advocates can represent and support on a range of issues including:
- Care and treatment
- Access to service provision
- Issues regarding human rights
- Care Programme Approach Reviews / Care Planning
- Case conferences
- Meetings with professionals concerned with your care
SEAP Portsmouth provides advocacy services for adults with physical disabilities, learning disabilities and older people. We can support on a range of issues including:
- Health care or treatment
- Legal / Human rights issues
- Complaints and conflicts
- Housing / Finance / Benefits
- When you need to have your view or opinion heard
