Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA) in Cornwall is provided by SEAP. This service supports a person who lacks capacity to represent their likely views to those who are responsible for making decisions.
Further information is available by clicking on the IMCA page in this section.
IMHA
Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA) in Cornwall is provided by SEAP. The Mental Health Act changed in April 09 and now most detained patients have a legal right to an advocate (IMHA). You are entitled to an IMHA if you are detained under Section 2 or 3, subject to a Community Treatment Order, subject to Guardianship, not detained but being considered for certain treatments.
Other Advocacy Services
For adults living in Caradon, Carrick, Kerrier, Penwith and North Cornwall, we also provide advocacy services which can help and support you to deal with issues connected with your care and treatment (both within hospital and in the community), as well as a general Mental Health Advocacy service for the whole of Cornwall. We also provide an advocacy for people over 65 with dementia.
